Fovant Rainbow Centre Pre School
- At
2½ the children are now ready to progress to the Pre-School.
At two and half years the children are now
ready to move in to the pre-school. The pre-school leader and
her staff create fun and exciting activities for the children
to ensure they are progressing towards their Early Learning
Goals.
Each child has a key-worker who through
regular observations and working with parents/carers ensures
that the children experience
activities which will enable them to learn. The pre-school
team carefully plan daily and weekly activities, both inside
and outside, which are focused around the children’s
own interests and incorporate the six areas of learning from
the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.
The day is structured
to provide children with self-chosen activities, guided play
and adult-led activities. Children
are encouraged to have fun with activities whilst staff are
carefully
trained to ensure children are learning through their play.
Most children don’t even recognise that they are being
taught as they are having so much fun!
A year before children go to primary school
they begin to learn skills in order for them to achieve and
succeed at “big
school” This includes sitting and concentrating for
longer periods, practicing fine motor skills, working with
numbers
and learning letters. We use the Letters and Sounds
high quality phonics programme that concentrates on fun activities
which promote children’s
speaking and listening skills and phonic awareness.
Keyworkers will ensure each child’s
individual needs are being met and ensure their complete
well-being. There is
a new emphasis on early years provision and the curriculum
has changed to meet this but in many cases the result is
that some children’s nurseries are offering a babysitting
service, rather than a proactive fun programme which instills
the fundamental foundations for strong early learning skills
in literacy, numeracy and educational awareness. Much of
a person’s intellect and personality is formed in the
first three years of life, and the quality of care and instruction
they receive during this time is key to the development of
who they become as adults.
